GOOD FRIDAY OBSERVANCE.
Sir, —Year by year one is thankful for the fuller observance of "the Day on which our Best Friend died' for us" by
all denominations, but it makes one sick at heart to think that so many people in the community evidently caro little or nothing about the sentiments of Christiana, at : this holy season. .To-day, the day of our Lord's betrayal, is marked by the holding of '..he primary schools' sports; to-morrow, Good Friday itself, by at least two picnics arranged in connection with the employees of public. bodies. In a country in which holidays abound it ought sorely to be possible to arrange for these fixtures at times when the feelings of nobody will' be hurt, and when people will not have to choose between sharing in the , pleasures of their workmates or spending the time , quietly . in meditation upon- tile sacred sufferings of their Saviour. It is good to see that Fuller's and many of the picture theatres, with a better sense of the fitness of things, will have no performance on* Good Friday. Would that the tramways department and others would take notice and follow the example set. • G. Gobdon Beix. fe Holy Sepulchre Vicarage, Auckland. & Maundy Thursday, 1924.
