After; graduating at an agricultural college in England, the deceased came to New Zealand in 1879, and entered into farming pursuits in Otago. Later he engaged in the timber and kauri _ gum industry as manager' oi ; a business' in Northern Wairos. He also engaged in several commercial enterprises on his own account until *ho entered the Government service ag sessional , ; clerk for the \ House of Representatives. In 1899 he ' was appointed Crown lands ranger for Wairarapa, and subsequently ha held the position of ranger for Marlborough and Canterbury. The late Mr. . Buckhurst was a keen chess-playerj taking part in many interprovincial chess contests. ■ LATE MB, wT HANSON.
