Tuesday. i A man named George Easterbrook left the I Matawhero Hotel about 4 a.m. on Friday ■ with a waggon and horses, intending |togo to Wharerata on Saturday. Some j of the horses came home with their harj ness still on, and Easter brook's friends 1 went out and found the waggon and tho ! rest of the horses on the Kopua Hill, the waggon being covered with a tarpaulin. To-day Constable McLean went out and i searched the waggon. He found a letter i believed to be written by Easterbrook j stating that he had had enough of this | life, that he was in trouble financially, and that he wanted to make an end of everything. The creeks in the vicinity were much swollen with the recent rains, but men ! are now searching them as far as posI sible.
