THE DRESSING TABLE.

Very few members of the fair sex fail to take interest in the beautiful modern productions for the dressing table. Toilet preparations which may have a fascination of their own become irresistible when given a lovely setting. The up-to-date scent bottle is made to represent an animal, bird, . or. quaint figure; there is a distinct charm about the figure phials for holding perfume, of which the cork forms the head. This is the design of a French artist who has also conceived an original toilet set moulded in the form of a village. Each bottle for lotion or perfume is a miniature house, tree, school, or shop, very quaintly portrayed. Among other new designs in scent bottles is one modelled in the form of the famous Sphinx in alabaster glass. Perfume burners are also made in the shape of figures. One of the prettiest burners is a small alabaster bowl set on a tripod. Scented candles are sometimes used on the dressing table. A new jewel box, which may be seen to the left of the sketch, is covered with Chinese embroidery and has jade rings on the top and side 3. Fashionable hand mirrors have very short handles. It is interesting to note that mother-o'-pearl is fashionable again for manicure mountings. A novelty -is a nail polisher which opens to reveal a manicure case, fitted with scissors, orange sticks, and paste and powder boxes. ■ A small flat round box from which hang three tassels shows a new design for a vanity case. The powder and puff are in the box and each tassel conceals a lip stick or salve. A little powder box made of silver tissue and mounted with ostrich feather strands is a dainty trifle for evening use.
