Brinkman has placed Kean John on ft »rn 40e mark and has asked him to concede p «<« Dean 48yda and Marion btyle 36yd*. In the Stewards' Handicap, to be decided to-day, Kean John is on a 4m Ms mark, or the same as Peter Dean, while £* 'receiving 12yds from Marion Style. If Mr. Bnnkman's assessment of Kean John is correct, then he ought to take some beating in the Stewards' Handicap. _ Steel Bell' finished second to Minton •Derby in the Campbell Handicap last year, when the track was heavy, and under similar conditions may put up a good perform r-2ii.« in the event to-day. She was handicapped on » 4 4m 32s mark last; • year, but on this occasion is on dm 85s. All Bell can handle heavy going, and won the Cornwall Handicap last year from a 2m 13a mark. This year he/ is again on the earne mark. Brendo and Reliance, who were winners on the opening day of the Auckland autumn meeting last year, when the track was very heavy, are engaged to-day. Ahuriri if stated to be an improved horse since last he raced, and if there is any truth in that assertion he is certain to keep his opponent* extended in the Campbell Handicap. A brace of Australian-bred unhoppled paoers in Kissing Cup and Sparkling Pronto are expected to make their first appearance in New Zealand in the Easter Handicap today. P. Kiddle won the Campbell Handicap last year with Minton Derby. He will be represented by Escort in that event to-day.
