TROTTING.

SEASON'S "FIXTURES. April 9, 13—Auckland T.C. April 19. 23— N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. Jane 7Ashburton T.C. AUCKLAND CLUB'S MEETING TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME. The inaugural day's sport in connection with the Auckland Trotting Clair's Autumn Meeting. postponed from Saturday laet, la fixed for to-day, and, with a good prospect) of fine weather prevailing, a. large concourse of racegoers may bo expected to assemble at? Alexandra Park in order to assist at the gathering, for there is material to bring about some very interesting contests in the whole of the eight events which form the programme. A rumour of a probable postponement was rifo yesterday. This was far-fetched. An inspection of the race track yesterday revealed that the ground' bad stood the .test of the recent heavy rain most cfioctively;. and with yestordav's drying wind the position is quite satisiac- ;? a stewards early made it own that the only thing that Will cause a postponement will be a continuous downpour and that occasional showers will not affect the situation in regard to the inauguration taking place to-day. """."suxauon The horses engaged in the opening event are to be paraded in the birdcage at 11 a.m., and the programme will be run off ia the following order

If Mr. Bnnkman's assessment of Kean John is correct, then he ought to take some beating in the Stewards' Handicap. _ Steel Bell' finished second to Minton •Derby in the Campbell Handicap last year, when the track was heavy, and under similar conditions may put up a good perform r-2ii.« in the event to-day. She was handicapped on » 4 4m 32s mark last; • year, but on this occasion is on dm 85s. All Bell can handle heavy going, and won the Cornwall Handicap last year from a 2m 13a mark.
