The council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce met yesterday, the president, Mr. A A. Martin, occupying the chair. ,
A poor response to the campaign for funds for advertising Auckland at the British Empire Exhibition was reported. A canvass of 119 members of the chamber had resulted in only. £3 being collected. The total money available was just over £250. Members regarded the position as extremely disappointing. The. matter will again be discussed by a special committee to-day, Mr. D.. Carter, Auckland manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, and Mr. A. W. Mouat, district railway traffic manager, were welcomed to seats on the council.
Mr. A. E. Steven addressed the meeting on the question of trade with Chile. He said a steamer service from Hongkong to Manila, Australia, New Zealand and Chile had already been established.
