NAPIER. Thursday. Mr. C. S. Edwards, manager of the Napier Gas Company, died suddenly in ' the street this evening. He was \ con-> ■: versing with two other members of the;, Chamber of Commerce after a meeting of that body, when he had a sudden seizure and fell to the ground. # He expired before he' could be removed. Mr. Edwards was a highly esteemed citizen -and a-" prominent public man, and at different
times "sat on various local bodies, inclosing the Borough Council; Chamber of Commerce,. School Committee, and the Thirty Thousand Club. He also was a keen supporter of various sports - clubs, ,'/• .and he took a special interest in ■"- the Hawke's Bay branch of the Royal Life Saving Society. '.
MB. P. S. USSHER. The death occurred on Wednesday of an old Ponsonby resident, Mr. Peroral Stanley. Ussher, son of the late -Mr. Thomas Ussher, of Ponsonby. Mr. Ussheri who had reached the age of 44, served with the sth New "Zealand Mounted Rifles in the South African War. He was vice-president and honorary treasurer of.lithe; South African War Veterans* Association in Auckland. He also took a prominent part in Rugby League football and other athletic sportsDeath; followed an • operation for appendicitis.
