MURIWAI MOTOR RACES.
AUSTRALASIAN SPEED TEST.
Chief interest in the motor-car races, to be , held at Muriwai Beach on Saturday, centre round the attempt to lower the Australasian 5-mile speed record, and . the race for the New Zealand Motor Chip, the three placed men in the latter event being entitled to compete in the former contest. Among the entrants for the cap are the present holder, and two other winners of* the coveted trophy. In addition/the wellknown Australian speed motorist, Mr. Norman " Wizard " Smith, as well as a number of Wellington and ' Auckland experts, are included in the list of acceptances. :
The distance of the' cup race is 50 miles, including five turns, and with a record field of crack drivers, a very exciting contest is sure to bo witnessed. i
The ladies' race should also furnish a most interesting event, this being the first occasion on which the local public will have the opportunity of seeing .lady drivers demonstrate their skill and nerve in a speed eventf. In all, the programme .; includes eight events, and the first race is timed to start at 1.30 p.m. '
