HOME SCIENCE INSPECTOR.

WELCOME TO MISS DYER. An official welcome was tendered yesterday afternoon to Miss M. Dyer, M.A., the recently-appointed inspector in home science subjects, who arrived by the lonic on Tuesday. The gathering, which was held at the Technical College, was attended by representatives - of* the various branches of education, Mr. J. Caughley, director of education, occupying the chair - Mr. Caughley expressed great pleasure in welcoming Miss Dyer, stating that her appointment was an important one, and that the need of -an expert director of home science training had been, keenly felt by the department. She j.would be able to give advice and counsel to all teachers of the domestic science work throughout New Zealand. This branch of education was rapidly developing, and the establishment of a sound and progressive system was- a matter* of considerable importance. A high standard had already been achieved, but it was hoped that Miss Dyer would be able to point out new, lines of development by which the present system might be strengthened and improved. Mr. A. Burns welcomed Miss Dyer on behalf of the chairman of the Education Board, and, Mr. H. S. W. King and Mr. C. W. Garrard extended the good wishes of the Technical College Board of Managers and of the inspectorate respectively. Miss Braidwood spoke briefly on behalf of the domestic science department in Auckland, members of which were looking forward to Miss Dyer's co-operation and help. Miss Dyer responded briefly, thanking the speakers for their kindly welcome and stating that she would do her best to accomplish the apparently difficult task pf pleasing all the mothers of New Zealand, as well as those in charge of the administrative side of tho work.
