The town of Springfield, Kentucky, is experiencing troublous times as a result of the evolution theory. Friendships of a lifetime have been rent asunder, deposits have been withdrawn from one bank and placed in another, boycotts have been declared against certain merchants, and heated discussions, approaching dangerously near to fistic encounters, 'v occur daily. All this because the Darwinian theory as to the origin of manor, as popularly put, the theory that man descended from the monkey being taught in the local High School. ' ' The State of Kentucky has a law which forbids the teaching of human evolution in those institutions which receive State support. The Springfield churches have alleged that the superintendent of the High School is disobeying that law. Pro-Darwinians have come to his rescue with. turbulent ■ results. Prominentspeakers are being brought in by both sides, and the enmity among the disputants is reaching a surprising degree.
