VISITING CRICKETERS.

THE EAST COAST MATCH. HOME TEAM MAKES 166. GOOD START BY N.S. WALES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER. Tuesday. . The New South Wales , cricket team commenced its match against the East Coast team this afternoon at Nelson Park, in the presence of about 1000 people. The weather was perfect and there was a good wicket and a fast outfield. The East Coast team was first to bat and, although it did not put up a high score, it gave a very creditable exhibition, all the batsmen playing the bowling with confidence. The display .in several cases was very good cricket. O'Connell, who topped the score with 50, gave a bright display. The home side, however, showed' a lack of enterprise in running between wickets, numerous runs being lost by dilatorinesa in this respect. The innings realised 166 and lasted 151 minutes. The visitors commenced batting at 5.25 p.m. and play ceased at 6-35 p.m., owing to the failing light. During that short period Andrews and Hendry rattled on 87 runs, treating the loose bowling of Bernau and O'Connell with scant respect. Neither struck a length and the batsmen did as they liked. Andrews was missed off the last ball of the day on the boundary on a rather difficult chance in a bad light. The fielding of the visitors was smart and clean, but that of the home team was patchy.
