A suggestion by the medical superintendent that medical and surgical registrars bo appointed, to keep proner records of the cases in the hospital, and particularly of all operations, was referred to the Finance Committee for report. As an outcome of the recent destruction of the nurses' quarters at the Costley Home, a sum of £120 was voted toward replacing the clothing lost by these employees of the board. It was stated that the replacement of the building was now in the hands of the architect, and that the work would occupy 12 months. Accommodation for at least 50 nurses was to be provided. The tender of Messrs. Clarke and Dalley, at £95, was accepted for the laying of water pipes at the Costley Home. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee it was agreed that applications for the position of assistant medical superintendent be invited in New Zealand and Australia, the commencing salary to be £600 per annum, with residence.
A circular from the North Canterbury Hospital Board advocating the promotion of legislation in the direction of daylight saving, by putting the clocks forward one hour in summer, provoked a short discussion. A motion by Mr Coyle in favour of support to the proposal was negatived and the circular was simply received.
