PRICE OF NORTHCOTE GAS.
PROSPECTS OF REDUCTION. The Birkenhead and Northcote* districts are likely to benefit by a reduction in the price of gas, in common with the city and other suburban districts. The chairman of the' Birkenhead and Northcote Gas Company, Mr. J. Coe, yesterday informed a deputation of North - cote residents that the company's year would close in April, when the directors hoped to announce an immediate reduction in price. The causes of dissatisfaction ventilated % at the recent public meeting' at Northcote, he said, would receive the fullest consideration. ' Every effort would be made to eliminate any cause for complaint. He expressed - his "conviction that with the completion of the laying of the new large main six weeks hence all parts of Northcote would" be satisfactorily served. The residents of Princes Street would receive • the benefit of this connection in three "weeks. The manager, Mr. R. Neal, stated that the residents already connected with the new niain further north were now perfectly satisfied with ■ the gas service.
