LIGHTING DF THE BOROUGH. j POWER BOARD'S INTENTIONS. The Onehunga Borough Council met last, j evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. E. Cowell, in the chair. There were also present Messrs. W. C. Coldioutt, T. G. R. ' Gilbert, P. R. Lipscombe, C. E. Goode, G. Hunter, P.. G. Barnes, F. H. Bodd and A, J. Hipwell. The Auckland Power Board wrote asking for a plan of Onehunga, as it was intended to supply; the borough with electricity in ; the early future- On receipt of this plan and the recommendations of the council in regard to the lights it required the board would submit a complete J scheme for approval. As the board I would probably: require to order from j England . a good deal of the material j required it would be necessary for the \ council to act at once. It was decided j to deal with'the whole matter in committee next Monday. It was decided to allow Mr. R. L. Stewart to divide his property into sections for. building sites. A tradesman wrote complaining about the Salvation Army being granted a permanent stand, as it was an inconvenience to him in his business. .It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Mayor, who would interview the writer and also the Salvation Army. * A communication was received from the Auckland Harbour Board advising that it, proposed to take no further action at present i in regard to the draining of sewage into the upper part of the Manukau Harbour, in.-, view of. the expressed intention of the Onehunga Council to take a poll of the residents in the eastern part of the borough on a proposal to borrow for a complete system of drainage of that area. The Mayor and the treasurer were authorised to sign the debentures covering the leans of £75,000 and £9000, also to sign the permanent levels in No. 1 contract under the loan. Work on this contract was started in Princes Street a fortnight ago, and a good portion of the street has already been ploughed up with a steam plough, preparatory to regrading and forming in permanent materials.. Applications were received for the use of part of the park at Te Papapa during the coming winter, and it was decided to allow No. 1 and No. 2 areas to the Manukau Rovers, No. 3 to the Mangere United League, and No. 4 to the One-, hunga Athletic Association Club and the Onehunga Methodists' Association.
