Bailey, jun.> !at his yard . at Beaumont Street. Th« ; new vossel will be 140 ft. long with 1 a 131 ft. ■ beam 5 and •-< 10ft. ~ ? 3in. - depth. J She is a .double ended steamer; similar i? i size and design to the Devonport "Ferry : Co's. steamer Peregrine, which.was also ■■■■,: j built .by Mr. Bailey. The ; main differ- ! ence between the two vessels is that th» j Peregrine is built of wood throughout and | the new vessel . will : be.. composite built, | with : steel , frames and wood planking. | : v Good progress is being made ; "nth the ! new steamer. The frames. have been j fitted and her hull is being planked. It [ is expected she will be ready for service j about November. As the new vessel , will | carry about 1300 passengers, her addition to the steadily . growing fleet of • ferry • steamers at Auckland will :be much appreciated by travellers to " the northern suburbs.
