LOAN OF £17,000 AUTHORISED. • - v< ' ' r, .v The poll' at i Birkenhead: yesterday, , on the proposal .to raise a - loan : of; £17,000 for the construction in asphalt of - footpaths and main roads, resulted in the proposal being, carried by a majority .of 149 votes. There were ' approximately 1200 ratepayers on the roll, but of these only one-third exercised the; ; franchise, 271 votes being recorded in favour of the .loan and 122 against. . * . The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. G. Skeates, I conveyed the Borough . Council's v appre- ! ciation of the ] ratepayers' endorsement of ! the proposed works. The council, he | said, would endeavour to : Expedite .i the ' work, the completion of which would' | materially assist .in making "Birkenhead the modern .suburb it should be. '
