v AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS. ANTHONY COMPILES CENTURYThe club championship matches, under the auspices of tho Auckland Cricket Association, were continued on Saturday. The weather was fine, and the wickets, consequent on the recent rains, were in good order and favourable for the batsmen. Tho outfields were also fairly fast and good scores were recorded. Ponsonby coLlapsed sensationally in the lirst innings against Parnell. on No. 2 wicket, at Eden Park The team batting one man short, was dismissed for the poor local of 54 runs, the only batsmen to reach double figures being Smith (19), and We'Lhei-ail (12). The* wicket was not responsibhu for the downfall so much asthe good bowling and excellent fielding of Parnell. who accepted ail the chances, Anthony bowled well, taking five wickets for 25 runs, Aitken also bowled splendidly to secure four wickets lor 28 runs. Parnell in its first innings, compiled 212 runs for the loss of tour wicket*. Anthony was the hero of the side, com-' piling 118 runs; with good strokes on both sides of the wicket. McLeod batted solidly for 5i and J. Smith showed good form in compiling 26. In the match, Grafton v. University. played on No. 1 wicket, at Eden Park. Grafton, in its first innings, compiled 183 run*. C Snedden was the principal scorer, with a well compiled 41, made by good strokes all round the wicket, some of his offshota being excellent. Leech batted .soundly for 37, and J. Graham played a bright innings for 26. The Grafton bat-ting was enterprising, few of (ho batsmen failing to go for the bowling, with the result that the scoring was fine and the innings attractive. University, in its first innings, opened promisingly, and at the. drawing of stamps, had compiled 88 runs for the loss of one wicket.
