THEFT TO PAY BETTING DEBTS INCOME OF OVER £3000. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Feb. 12. William Benjamin, an accountant, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for robbing his late empioVerii, Messrs. Robinson and Vincent, Sydney, of over £5000 ;i' .. • * '••• ; ; v " Evidence showed he is the victim of the gambling mania. He was employed by a number of leading firms and earned £3000 to £4000 per annum. He started plunging on horse races, until he was £5000 to the bad, and took this amount ol! money to pay his debts. Then 'he worked his -way as an ordinary seaman to America, where he was arrested, penniless.
