TWO HOUSES BURNED.
FIRE AT BAYBWATER. LACK OF WATER SUPPLY. PRACTICALLY NOTHING SAVED. The destruction by fire of two neighbouring houses' at Rayswater occurred early yesterday afternoon. The houses were situated in King Edward Avenue, and one was owned and occupied by Mr. C. Brown, and the other by Mr. T. Galloway, cause of the fire is not known. It started hi Mr. Brown's house, and immediately gained a good "hold, and threatened the next house. Tho Devonport Brigade was summoned, but as there were no fire-plugs, the hose could not be used, and the firemen were powerless to cope with the flames. This house was slightly scorched. Practically nothing was saved from the other two dwellings. The insurance on Mr. Brown's hou?<» was £900, in the North British office, and on the contents, £300, in the South British. Mr. Galloway's house was covered by a policy of £900 in the Commercial office, and the contents by £250 in tho .same office.
