A LION AT LARGE.
_ Oi ' ESCAPE TO WOODS IN FRANCE HUNTED BY POLICE. A. and N.Z. ' PARIS, Feb. 8. During a storm a lion's cage belonging to a menagerie was blown from a railway truck between Puget and Cuers and smashed. The lion escaped. A warning was issued that all children be kept indoors. Armed gendarmes and police cycliuts, assisted toy peasants, searched the district fruitlessly till nightfall. It is feared that the lion has escaped to the -woods, and his capture will be difficult.
ANIMAL SHTJT DEAD. DRIVEN AFIELD BY HUNGER. ' (Received 6.5 p.m.) Times." PARIS. Feb. 9. The escaped lion was killed near Cuers. Hunger compelled it to emerge from the woods and the animal was shot dead.
