EXECUTION BY GAS.
NEW METHOD IN NEVADA. CHINESE PUT TO DEATH. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Feb. 8. What is believed to be the first legalised execution by lethal gas occurred at Carson City, Nevada, when the authorities put Gee Jon » convicted Tong murderer, to death by the so-called " sleeping method." Guards locked 'the prisoner within a small lethal chamber, into which hydrocyanic gas was admitted through a series of condkiits. Official witnesses 4 looking through a small window watched the prisoner, who expired within a minute, after which tho gas was expelled and the physicians entered, pronouncing him dead. The entire operation, including the examination, occupied three minutes. Another account declares that the Chinese was strapped down in a hermetically sealed cell, and that death occurred within 30 seconds.
