KILLED BY A FALL.

MAN DROPS THIRTY FEET. RIDE ON A BUSH ENGINE. FATALITY AT A BRIDGE. fBT TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT- 1 THAMES. Sunday. An accident, attended with fatal results, occurred on Friday at Kauaeranga, near Thames. M.r. William Bingham, clerk in the employ of Mr. Collins, contractor to the Kauri Timber Company, was returning to the bush from Thames, and was riding on the engine used for taking logs from the bush to the mouth of the Thames River. He was sitting on a box on the engine, and as a thunderstorm seemed to be coming up, he attempted to work his way round to the cab to gain shelter. The engine was pulled up to allow him to do so but he lost his grip and fell off just when the engine was crossing a bridge which spans a stream with deep banks. After striking one of the stringers of the bridge, Mr. Bingham fell nearly 30ft. to the bed of the stream, landing on his back and head. He was quickly carried up by the engine-driver, and news of the accident was sent to Thames. Dr. Gray went out with the ambulance, which brought the injured man to the hospital. His condition was critical, and he gradually sank, and died at noon to-day from a fractured skull. Mr. Bingham, who was about 60 years of age, was a single man.
