YOUNG DESPERADOES.
MAIL ROBBERY PLANNED; ARMED WITH STOLEN RIFLES A. and N.Z SYDNEY. Feb. 8. , A remarkable , story was unfolded following the arrest of two boys at Mount Victoria. One of the lads, aged 12, confessed that he and a companion, aged 13, stole two rifles and intended to hold up the Hampton mail by shooting the driver, and then shoot the schoolmaster. The two lads went into the bush, where they quarrelled, and the elder shot at the other, the bullet narrowly missing him. .""■./..■• '-,-.'; : '
Later they became reconciled, and seeing a council employee, approaching along the road the elder remarked: "Here comes old Johnson, I will shoot him," at the same time levelling his rifle. The cartridge, however, failed to explode. The lads then returned home, shooting a cow on the way. The police were informed, and the lads took to the bush, where some hours later they were arrested.
