MILLIONAIRE'S EX-WIFE.
NAME USED ON STAGE. The American millionaire, Mr. Frank J. Gduld; brought an' action against his former wife, Edith' Kelly Gould, in : the French courts to restrain her from using the name of- Gould on music-hall programmes. Miss Gould was appearing at the Palladium Theatre, London, and "was recently at the Alhambra Theatre. Mr. Gould sought £125 damages for injury to his family name, and, in addition, £125 damages a day for every day since September 27, when Miss Gould first used that name on the stage. Plaintiff's lawyer said that Miss Gould left her husband's home, taking with her jewels and property worth more ?• than £100,000. Miss Gould's case was presented by Maitre Henri Robert, the famous leader of the French Bar. He said that the wife did not take more than "a paltry 100,000 dollars" (£20,000), and asked, "What is 100,000 dollars to a Gould?"
Miss Gould had drawn up what she called the annual budget of a dancer. It
included £4000 for dresses and tinderclothes and £1100 for food. "Be careful, mademoiselle," remarked the husband's lawyer. "Be careful, .or you will lose your sylph-like figure." Miss Gould estimated that her dentist cost her £225 a year. Maitre Robert said that it was an action brought by "a naughty American" against "a poor little English girl.'' Judgment was reserved.
