MATAMATA WORKS DELAYED. [by. telegraph.—own correspondent,] • J PUTABTJETJ. Friday; . The Matamata County Council met at Tirau to-day, Mr. J. W. Anderson presiding. ' . . .. ■_ The chairman of the District Highways Council, Mr. A. J. Baker, wrote requesting a return of particulars of the proposed maintenance, capital expenditure, etc., by the county during the next financial year on the main '* highways through tho county. The engineer was instructed to supply these as far as com? putable, but the chairman pointed out theft the county's capital expenditure lar- j gely depended on the subsidy which j could be expected from the : Highways .Board. ; /•■-.- ; Tenders were accepted for improving and metalling the worst portions of , the Mamaku Hill Road, four miles of gravelling at Waiomo, and one mile of gravelling ton the Putaruru-Tirau : road. -' • The engineer reported that it was impossible to obtain sufficient supplies of metal from outside quarries for the works desired in the county, and consequently some of the works were retarded.
