Mr. Gardiner was a prominent athlete in Auckland in the eighties and early nineties, and represented the province both in cricket and .Rugby football. j He was a member of the Parnell Cricket Club and was a hard-hiuiiig batsman .as . well • as; a, very -fine^bowler,.
