The Weekly Despatch reports that a school boy, who amazed everybody by growing two and a-half inches in one term, was the hero of a scientific romance which Professor Cullis unfolded at King's College. Because the boy was disturbingly small, he was given a few doses of extract of the pituitary gland. He then shot up like a mushroom. The professor explained that the pituitary gland, a gland the size of a pea at the base of the brain, is overtake in giants. Probably people become abnormally large because of the overaction of "the gland during growth. PIGMENTATION ALTERED. EXPERIMENT ON A FROG. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Jan. 6. The possibility dark women may become fair at will and fair women dark is foreshadowed by the revelations of new gland experiments made by Dr. Winifred Cullis, who stated in an interview that extractions from the posterior lobe of the pituitary- gland changed the sandy-colour of a frog to pitch black. It is within the range of possibility that blondes may be changed to brunettes and vice versa if they wish. We may even see black men turned white, but there will be danger in this, for the colouring of black races is a protection against the sun's rigours in their native clime.
