ALLEGED USE OF CHEMICALS.

' At the Police Court today William George Wright iras charged with wounding a maie, at Waimana,.- by -means of corrosive chemicals. Evidence: was given that the maro was found with its eye injured and bleeding on November 10. On December 1, a mare which had; been left at Taneatua, was missing after a. picture entertainment and was' found :sfive- miles away on the following : day staggering and' bleeding. The evidence showed that on November 19, two impounded • horses were found to have been ' injured, ;one being dead and the other dying. A watch was kept .on the pound. .Accused was seen riding past on the evening of .December 1, leading a mare which later was identified as the one that had.-been injured in the Waimana Aiorge. Several other horses were wounded in the pound within the last few months. One had the tendons of its hock severed and had to be destroyed. On April 7, accused was found in the pound paddock at 1.30 a.m. "Evidence was given as to the finding of chemicals at accused's residence similar to those believed to bo responsible for the injuries to the mare. Accused ) who pleaded " not guilty," was committed for trial at the Supreme Court,' at. Dishorn e.
