' NOTES FROM THE SOUTH. GLOAMING AND GLENTRUIN. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ! CHRISTCHURCH. Saturday. Gloaming has done a bit of sprinting lately. He shows plenty of brilliance, and, what is more important, he appears to be quite sound. He may make his first appearance in the six furlongs Waterloo Stages at Trentham next* month. This, by the ; way. will probably be Gleniruin's next race, so it will be a notable event. Gloaming will have no penalty, however, and will thus 1 be at a great advantage. Deucalion, who has shaken clear of the lameness that recently came against him. has been training on well, and he is to be raced at the Manawatu ■ and Marton meet- , ings. The Demosthenes gelding can be ticked off to pay his way during the holiday season. 1 * J. McCombe will take Sunny Loch, Geranial, and Cheat to Manawatu. ant?, then go on to Marton. They have been galloping well. ' . . Upwards of 20 Riccarton horsed will be racing at the Dunedin meeting. They will then scatter, some going to Southland, others to Waikouaitii and some returning straight home. A fair-sized team will also do the West Coast circuit, so Riccarton will be deserted during the r holidays. ; > 4 ; ■ Solferite went sore as a result of the hard tracks, and he is having a spell. He - is a very promising sprinter. 4 - „ i Although the two-year-old Gay Queen is engaged at the Dunedin meeting, she may not race till next month at .Trentham, by which time her owner, - Captain j Tahu Rhodes, will be back in the Dominion. . Cerebus is making a good recovery , from the injuries he reeived in a hurdle race . at Riccarton last month. He - shows little evidence of unsoundness, and it is hoped that he will be all right again in a few weeks. Boadicea, who was given a rest after the Canterbury meeting, is .now doing easy work, but she will not be required to race for some time. ' - ' Serotina, a two-year-old -sister, to Owlscombe (by Autumnus from Glenowlet). has arrived at Riccarton from Stonyhurst, and has joined Cutts brothers' team.
