POLICE COURT NEWS.
OFFENCES DUE TO DRINK.
A brief sitting of the Police Court was held on Saturday morning, before Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., when several minor cases were dealt with.
William Boyle, 39, admitted having committed an indecent act in Lorne Street and having used obscene language and resisted a constable. The accused pleaded that he had been under the influence of liquor and had not realised the* folly of his actions. Sergeant Eowell intimated that the profanity used by Doyle had been of a particularly objectionable nature, and the magistrate thereupon inflicted a penalty of £5 for that offence and convicted and . discharged the accused upon the other charges. When Albert Edward Howlett, aged 20, boarded ft tramcar in a state of offensive intoxication, he addressed the conductor in terms which led to his apprehension upon a charge of having used obscene language. The young man pleaded guilty, and was fined £5, in default one month's imprisonment. ; George Harrison, aged 59. admitted being a second < offender for drunkenness. A fine of £2, in default , three days' imprisonment, was imposed.
