Brown! of Wellington, are at the Star Hotel. Mr. E. Grayndler, secretary of th» Australian Workers' Union, left Wellington for Melbourne last week, after a visit to New Zealand. Mr. W. T. C. Airey, New Zealand Rhodes Scholar in 3920, is returning to the Dominion, and is due to reach Auckland by the Niagara on December 27. Mr. W. M. Mcllrea, formerly headmaster of the Normal School, Dunedin, returned to New Zealand by the Tahiti last week, after a nine months' trip in Europe and America. Mr. 35. C. Cutten, S.M., has been ap>. pointed chairman of the Licensing Committees for the districts of Auckland. Waitemata, and Parnell, in succession to Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M. i> Mr. J. L. R. Bloomfield and Mr. Trevor Bloomfield, of Auckland, who have been on a visit to Great Britain, extending over eight months, are returning by the Ruapehu due at Auckland this afternoon. Mr. T. Morrison, conservator of forests, - is visiting the West Coast. He has inspected the State mines area be- • tween Runanga and Grey, with a view to determining its possibilities for afforestation. Dr. W. C. Sadlier, Anglican Bishop of Nelson, has been made a presentation by' parishioners and friends in the Cheviot . district. The presentation is a Christmas gift, and takes the form of a gold pectoral cross, a beautiful specimen of the jeweller's art. Miss Mary Champtaloup, of Auckland, has passed the final examination for the # degrees of M.8., Ch.B., and has been J pointed to the resident staff of the Dunedin Hospital. Dr. Champtaloup will commence hospital duty in February. .
