GOVERNMENT REPORT.
The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —Present indications are for variable -winds, with moderate to strong easterlies prevailing, tec-king to northerlic-s. northward of Kawhia and Castlepoint; increasing northerly to westerly winds elsewhere; weather warm and humid, with skies clouding over and rain following in the west wast arid southern districts. The barometer is falling. HERALD SPECIAL 1 FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 .m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H M. Vincent last evening: — Fair to cloudy weather, and very warm in east coast-and northern districts, will continue generally, but with increasing cloudiness. A few scattered showers are likely, followed by heavy general rams in about three days* as tropical influences, associated with tho extensive cyclonic disturbance centred to the northwest for the last few days, are now extending to New Zealand. Moderate to strong north-east to easterly winds prevailing freshening, and increasing to gale. Sens rough and increasing, especially on east coast and north from Whangarei.
