Mr. Massey, addressing the Belfast Chamber of Commerce, said he did not hesitate to say that the British free trade system was detrimental to the interests of Britain and of the British people. It had much to do with the unemployment in Britain. The present system was suitable 75 years ago, but 'was unsuitable now. Some people—and a few of them were within our gates— forward to the disintegration of the Empire. It was the business of loyal citizens to counteract efforts in that direction.
