The committee overlooked the breach, but framed Pope against a repetition. H. IWlien, rider of Desert Glow in th& Melrose Handicap, was cautioned for an alleged lapse. H. Beere, who rode KUroe in &ie Melrose Handicap, was alleged to interfered with Dancing Doll iD the same race, but. this inquiry was adjourned until to-dav. After the race for the | Ali»on Cup E. Wiggins, rider of iManketoon, lodged a complaint that his honie was interfered with in going out of the straight, but he was unable to state nrhother. such was caused by Gold Rain, x'dileo. by Tremain, or by Loyal Irish, rdilsn by E. Goldfinch. After hearing evidiHree the, committee held that Wiggins' complaint was justified. Goldfinch was held to have come over too quickly with Loyal Irish at the point named, and that rider "was suspended for the remainder of the day. Mr. A. W. Gordon was the stipendiary steward present. The totaliaator investments during the 'day amounted to £41,925, compared with £60,305 10s on- the opening day last year. It has, however, to be explained that the meeting opened on a Saturday last year, ~.. A Dead Heat. The opening event of the programme lt&s the Melrose Handicap, and, with a field of 24, speculators were confronted with a strong problem. Whetunui was the one to claim most attention, but he was never in a position to really threaten danger. The upshot of an exciting finish •was a dead! heat for first place between Charlady and Archibald, who ran almost the length of the straight stride for Stride. In a field of 15 saddled up for the Borough Handicap Cool Stimulants ruled the popular fancy. The favourite gave. his admirers a hue run, but ha failed to bead Namutere, who was always in front over the concluding five furlongs. ' "A field of 17 was produced to contest the Porrai Hurdle Race, for which Prince Sufua was made favourite. Penona looked like a winner at the head of the straight, but Prince Ruins had the best of it at the concluding- obstacle, and the favourite scored by three-quarters of a length. The fact of seven horses falling during the contest may be taken to mean that there were a. number of thrills outside the actual result. Boomerday's Wis. The Alison Cup was the next event to claim attention, and in a good betting irace fee top, weight, Surveyor, counted Bufficiecit admirers ■ to send him out favourite. The son 'of Nassau shot up j 'with a vigorous challenge inside the distance, but B©omerday, to whom he was called Trpon to concede 361b, successfully combat ted it, and a victory Vent down to the credit of the Qum Abbey gelding. Prince Rufua headed Penona at the last fence, and went on to defeat her decisively by two and a-half lengths. Panchito was four lengths further back, third, followed by Bang, Bustler. Quinette easily held her own in the run to the post, and won ,by a length and a-quarter from Day Guard, who was two lengths in front of Gold Fern, TChursroeae was fourth, and then came Sen 0' Mine, Thuxeaco and Onxino. Take Take and Aerofortis were first round the bend, from Smoke and Master Rohan. with Tinopono , coming fast. Smoke challenged at the distance and got up to score by a length from Master Rohan, who was half a-length in front of the dead-heaters, Tinopono and Aerofortis. Take Take, Sussex. Pentagram and King Abbey led across the top. and into the straight, from Shellßhoek, Miss Melva. and Peter Amans. Once into the straight. Pentagram shook King. Abbey off. but he ran down the last fence and was challenged by Shellshock. whom, he defeated by half abead.
