POLICE COURT NEWS.

DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. j TWO OFFENDERS FINED. A short list of cases was dealt with at the Police Court yesterday before Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M. Thomas McCabe, aged 29, admitted having been drunk and disorderly on Sat:irday afternoon, but said he had no recollection of having committed an indecent act in Hobson Street. A fine of 20s was imposed for each of the offences, and the accused was ordered to take out a prohibition order. An elderly man, James Lee. was charged with having been drunk, and disorderly in Queen Street. A policeman had noticed accused staggering about the street and indulging in playful antics. lie had not acted offensively, but merely persisted in accosting pedestrians and soliciting their attention to his unstable equilibrium. Lee sheepishly idmitted having cut some foolish capers, and the magistrate inflicted a fine of £2, in default seven days in Mount Eden.

AN ALLEGED BOOKMAKER. Gub Hassal, aged 25 (Mr. Sullivan), appeared on charges of having carried on business as a bookmaker and with having exhibited a double chart for the purpose of taking bets. On the application of counsel a remand waa granted until next Thursday. REMANDED ON SERIOUS CHARGE. Thomas MeMullen (Mr. Sullivan), a middle aged man who described himself as a widower, was charged with having had unlawful carnal knowledge, of a girl aged 14j years, at Kopaki It was* alleged that tho offences had extended over a period of three months. After the evidence of the child and ,of her mother and aunt had been taken, accused was remanded until next Thurs day. bail -.being allowed in two sureties of £150 each. ' FIXE FOR BAD LANGUAGE. "Guilty under provocation," was the plea of John Maskill, aged 39, when charged with having used obscene language within the hearing of pedestrians "in Customs Street. Accused was unable to explain what had provoked him to use the lurid expression, and the magistrate imposed a fine o f £2, in default seven days' imprisonment.
