TE PUKE AFFAIRS.

FARMERS' UNION MEETING. [BY IELEORAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. TE PUKE. Monday. The Te Puke branch of : the Farmers' Union met on Saturday last. It was decided to invite the Minister for Public Works to visit Te Puke and to ask that the Tauranga railway bridge be made available for pedestrian and ' vehicular traffic, and that railway connection be provided between Rotorua and the East Coast railway line at Paengaroa. It is also decided that a large deputation of farmers will confer with the Minister for Agriculture, Hon. W. Nosworthy, on his approaching visit in regard to several matters affecting the dairy industry. A letter was received from Mr. B. C. Aston, Chemist of the Department of Agriculture, stating that a topographical survey of the Rotorua County was about no be undertaken. Members recognised the importance of the proposed work and expressed the opinion that a survey of the soil was of supreme importance to the farming community. The hope -vas expressed that the work about to be carried out in the' Rotorua c County would i also prove of some benefit to ibis locality.
