U.S.A. AND TURKEY.

OPPOSITION TO TREATY.

SACRIFICE OF ARMENIA. SENATE FIGHT EXPECTED. By Telegraph—Press Association CopyrieH (Received 4.5 p.m.) A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Nov. 24. Denouncing the treaty between the United States and Turkey as a document in which the rights of the United States are sacrificed and Armenia is thrown overboard for the sake of the Chester oil concession, 57 public men, headed by Mr. S. W. Gerard, former Ambassador to Germany, have launched a campaign to prevent ratification of the treaty by the United States Senate.

Two treaties with Turkey, one of amity and commerce, and the other of extradition, were signed by Mr. J. C. Grew on behalf of the United States at Lausanne on August 6, 1923. The United States was never at war with Turkey, though diplomatic relations were severed in April, 1917, and was not a party to either the Treaty of Sevres or the Treaty of Lausanne between the Allies and Turkey. The separate treaty of amity and commerce provides for the most favoured nation treatment for the United

States and tho abrogation of the capitulations, and abrogates all previous treaties between the United States and Turkey.
