PROTECTION PORTENT.

FOREIGN MANUFACTURERS. BRANCHES .IN BRITAIN. A. and T7.Z. LONDON. Nov. 23. The political correspondent of the Times says that information has reached the Government that already, as a result of Mr. Baldwin's recent speeches, foreign manufacturers are actively inquiring regarding vacant industries in England, while a number are catering into negotiations for the purchasing or renting of factories in -which to make goods -which at present Britain is importing. It is regarded as a significant fact that in most cases in which factories in England have been leased or purchased in the last 18 months, the manufacturers are engaged in producing goods for industries already protected by Mr. R. McKenna's tariffs and the Safeguarding of Industries Act.
