UNKNOWN MAN'S DEATH.
KNIFE WOUNDS ON BODY.
FOUND UNDER GRAFTON BRIDGE.
The dead body of a man was discovered in the Grafton gully yesterday about 1 p.m. by some boys, who immediately informed the City Police. Investigation by the latter revealed that the body was that of a man apparently about 40 years of age.
At first it was believed that he had jumped fro»a the Grafton Bridge, as the body was lying almost underneath the centre of the structure. Examination however, led to the formation of a different theory. There were three knife wounds in the deceased's neck, a very large gash across the right thigh, a deep wound on the right wrist and a cut on the right forearm. A pocket knife with one blade open was found beneath the body. The man had apparently bled to death. Deceased was fully clothed and in one po'.ket was found a memoriani card on which was written, "F. R. Roller (my name)," care of a solicitor in the city. The return portion of a railway ticket from Kaukapakapa was also found fin deceased's clothing. At a late hour last night the man's identity had not been established.
