PROGRESS OF GISBORNE.

NEW BRIDGE OPENED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE. Saturday. The new Peel Street ferro-concrete overbridge, was opened this afternoon. It replaces the old structure over the Taruheru River, connecting the town, with the suburb of Whataupoko. The bridge which is of handsome design, is 420 ft. long, and 40ft. wide. The work is part of the loan scheme of £60,000, other works, which are all finished, being the connecting of Peel Street and road work, and extension of the tramway system through Whataupoko to the borough \«oundary, a distance of 1£ miles. Of the loan monev, the sum of £24,970 was allocated to the bridge. The town was decorated for the opening ceremony. The first tram was driven over the bridge along the new line to the borough boundary.
