NO VIOLENCE' ATTEMPTED," [BX ■ lELEGBAPH.—PRES9 ASSOOAJ^^ V : ASHBUETON. Fridiy. A visit from a nocturnal intruder with a gun is reported by Mr. R. Totiy, chemist. He states that at one o'clock oh - 1 Monday he and his wife were roused from their sleep by a rapping at the door. Mr.% Totty, thinking that somebody was requiring medicine, opened first. the | back Idoor and then the front - door. He searched the verandah without seeing any- | one, and then returned to bed.
Shortly afterwards Mr. Totty sayslwiM heard a voice outside the'.. walL Nowalarmed and suspiciousie asked: "'What do yon want Who.are you?* A nun', voice replied; litwan't money." Mr. Totty repliedr"l have nona.?... The man pushed up the' window, presented « : /H single-barrelled gun, 1 and repeated the demand. Both Mr. and , Mra. Totty sprang from bed.:'. Mrs. Totty ran to the telephone and summoned the police. The husband cautiously approached the intruder, but the. latter then withdrew the .> firearm . and decamped. , , * i'.rThe police arrived promptly, but so 'far M no . arrest has , been , made. The theory is that . the intruder • was a ' weak-minded : person. -
