BRIGHTON PIER TRAGEDY.

A man was seen to mount a seat at the side of t-hfc West Pierhead at Brighton one night, and throw himself into the sea. Miss Zoe Brigden, a young woman who was employed to give exhibitions of high diving on the pier, at once plunged into the water and attempted a rescue. It was very dark, and she had much difficulty in locating the object, but she eventually succeeded in, gripping the man's arm, and keeping him afloat until a man jumped from the pier to her .assistance. Eventually a party of boatmen arrived and picked up the three. On reaching the shore, however, it was found that the man was quite dead. Certain indications suggest that death was due to bis having swallowed a dose of poison immediately before drop !>ing into the water. Half a crown was bund in one of his pockets, and a fullyloaded revolver in another, but there was nothing by which identity could be established.
