ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED.

GROWTH OF THE MOVEMENT.

The sixty-eighth anniversary of the inauguration of t>ie Y.M.C.A. movement was celebrated on Thursday at a successful. function in the Auckland institution. Eighty members of the association were present at a dinner given by Mr. R. L. Stewart, and tha annual meeting of the local Y.M.C.A. ' and a gymnastic display followed.

Mr. C. J. Tunks, president of the association, speaking at the annual meeting, referred to the far-reaching influence of the movement. There were 1053 members under 25 years old, and as" an illustration of the association's value, he , mentioned that over 10 per cent, of the members were fatherless boys who gained assistance which otherwise would be denied them. Four branches had been established, at Northcote, Birkenhead, Birkdale, and Glen. Eden, showing the expansion of activities in Auckland. A total of 4750 boys had received training under the supervision of the association since 1910, the programme including religious, educational, social, and physical instruction.

Mr. Tunks was re-elected president, and Mr. R. H. Horsley, treasurer. A presentation of a clock was made to Mr. James Clanachan. a former captain of the Y.M.C.A. football team, in honour of his marriage. , The display of gymnastics and boxing, given under the direction of , Captain Potter, physical direcfepr, was greatly enjoyed. .
