PROFITABLE LAND DEAL.

LOWER HUTT COUNCIL.

The I ower Hutt Borough Council, about three months ago purchased a block cf property with frontage to the main Btreet, Lower Hutt, amounting to about acres, at a cost of £14, with the intention of bringing about improvements tnd providing a playing area in the heart of the borough. Some of the properties fronting the street have already been sold, producing £9000, and further sales have now been effected in Wellington, bringing up the total to £12,000. . This still leaves the borough council with one shop property and a vacant section, which, it is expected, on the basis of other sales will produce a further £3000. >, In this case the council will , clear £1000 on the properties fronting the street and will have the ground behind in hand. This ground, about 4 acres, has frontage to the side street, and is of considerable value. It is not, however, the intention of the council to dispose of this land, but to turn it into & reserve on which it is hoped in the very near future to provide a children's playground fully equipped, and also to lay out a portion for games of various kinds, a play area for boys, and also to make provision for the Plunket Society and dental clinic for the borough.
