During his residence here he was one of the first-pur- ; chasers 'of freehold ,-, property .at &ate. Pa. He then settled at Opotiki and joined : the " business staff of the late Hon. W. Kelly, M.L.CV, and was entrusted with the s management of. a . division of &£Mcommissariat, supply department. ;.£; Mr. , Kelly; held contract i or:„ some J^years for supplying tree* ; stationed in - the district. On ' retiring ;.:' from S business ; Mr.. Thompson bought the well-known Asbrook farm, a j large portion of i which -f is at ', present situ- . :'a.ted fin the f Borough of Opotiki. 4 During; the Maori war, ~ Mr. Thompson was sworn in as a member of the military forces. He received a land grant of 50 acres J- at Ake Ake, near;: Tauranga, , which vis ' still owned i by? a ; member of Ins . family. Deceased is survived by a widow ! and . three ; ; sons and \ three' daughters. The sons are S. Thompson, of Te Aroha. Walter Thompson, ■ot Whakatane, and William J. Thompson, of.
