A man prominent in stock circles st* ed that there were two reasons for this: Firstly, farmers now had a good supply of food Mia could afford to hang on to their stock; and secondly, the C.O.D. rue which was now being enforced had stopped many buyers from operating. \ FRUIT AND PRODUCE. MARKET REPORTS. Supplies of field produce were rather short at the Auckland City Markets yesterday, except as regards new potatoes and green peas. Fruit was in fair quantity. A fresh shipment of oranges is duo to-day by the Wanaka. FRUIT. Strawberries were in good demand and realised from Is 3d to 24 3d a chip. In apples, Delicious made 7s to 14s a case. Stunners bringing from 12s fid to 14s 6d. Dougherty* were sold at 6s to 9e. while Granny Smiths made 12a to 14s. Rome Beauties brought from 10s to lis. Gooseberries realised from 7s to 12s 6d. according to quality. Hothouse tomatoes had sale at from; Is to 2e per l lb. P. Barry pears made 10s to 12s. Lemons brought from 6a to 12s. but were in poor demand. Ripe pines had sale at from 12s 6d to 14s 6d. Ripe bananas realised from 30» to 35a. Repacked oranges broupht from' 25* to 28s, Sydney Valencia* bringing 20s to 255. A fresh shipment from Rarotonga is due to-day. PRODUCE. New potatoes were in good supply, and best grades brought 2d to 2ld per lb.. while others sold at lid to lid. Seconds were hard to quit. Kumaras had sale at from 17s to 18s per cwt. American onions, brought 2Gs a crate, which is 2s in advance of last week's price. Cabbages made 10s to 19s a rack, cauliflowers realising 6s to IBs. Green peas, of which there was a heavy supply, sold at from 3d to 4}d lb. Broad beans were oold at 2id to 2Jd lb. Asparagus brought from 6d to Is a bundle. French beans had sale at la 6d to 1* 9d lb. Hothouse cucumbers made from 10s to 14s do*. Lettuce roalised from Is to 3» doz. Rhubarb had sale at from 2s to jm 6d doi. Carrots, parsnips, beet and turnips sold at from Is 3d to 2s 9d do*. Marrows brought 6d to Is each. TmT ,„ POULTRY. Poultry was in heavy 6upply and the demand was good. Heavy cockerels, sold ab from 6s 3d to Bs. light bird? making 3s ed to 6s 9d. Hens, heavy, made 3s to 58 8d: light realising from 2s to 3«. Roosters had sale at from 2s fid to Is 9d. Young ducks made 3s to 4s 9d, old ducks bringing Is 6d to Bs. Turkey hens had sale at from 7s 6d to 9s 6d. Ducklings were eold at from Is to Is lOd. White Leghorn chickens brought from 6d to BJd. Black Orpingtons bringing 7d to 9d. DAiRy pBODUCE> Eggs were in very heavy supply, being consequently hard to quit.. Farmers butter was in good supply, realising on an average Is 25 d. Hen eggs made Is Id to Is dot... duck eggs realising lid to. Hid. Peers' butter sold at prices ranging from la Id to Is 5d lb.

UNION SOAP AND CANDLE CO. The annual meeting of the Union Soap and Candle Co., Ltd.. was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms yesterday. Mr. C. V. Houghton, chairman of directors, presided over the meeting, which was at-, tended by a large number of shareholders. The annual account* a.nd recommendations, as submitted, were raarumously adopted. The retiring directors and auditor were reappointed. Necessary resolutions! were* passed to increase the nominal capital of the" company to ' 100,000' shares.of £1 each, of which 25.000 of the additional shares will be issued to shareholders without any increased liability, and the balance held in reserve. Necessary alterations in the memorandum and articles of association were approved, and will be submitted for confirmation at a meeting called for Monday. November 26. _ The dividend will be payable at the office of the company next Monday. PBOPERTY SALES. T. Mandeno Jackson and Company, Auctioneers, sold at their rooms, Commerce Street, yesterday morning, two sections in the Rassie Estate, Cheltenham. A section with a frontage of 77ft, Gin. brought £(535. while the second sold at £11 a foot, realising £878 3s 4d for a frontage of ,79ft. lOin. A dairy and grazing farm 0f246 acres at Maungatautau. near Cambridge, together with a seven-roomed house and outbuildings, was bought in by the mortgagee for £4500. -...., .... Samuel Vailo and Sons, Limited, at their Queen Strest mart yesterday afternoon, sold a farm of 81 acres, situated at Waihou, near To Aroha. The property was bought in by the mortgagee for £2300. A farm of 199 acres at Puketaha was also bought in by the mortgagee for £5245. A 15-roomed apartment house known as "Tbornleigh," and situated in Saint George's Bay Road. P rnell, was offered, but no sale was effected, the reserve not being reached. Mr. C. F. Bennett, at his premises in the New Zealand Insurance Buildings, Queen Street, sold a five-roomed house, together with a section 40ft. by 150 ft., situated in Morningside. The property realised •1200. A four-roomed residence.- with a section 60ft. by 163 ft. on Kohimarama Esplanade, brought £1150. Two sections, with a frontage of 49ft. 6in. and a -depth of 211 ft. 2in.. fronting CampDell and Amaru Roads, One Tree Hill, ised £5 7s _ and £i 18s 6d a foot. A property situated on the northern corner of Grey Street and Neil's Avenue, with a small two-storey brick building, was knocked danpi to the second mortgagee for £4600.
