DAMAGE TO BATTLESHIP.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. fKecd. 9.5 .m.) WASHINGTON. Nov. 7. The Japanese Ambassador. Baron Hanihara, has officially notified the Secretary of State, Mr. C. E. Hughes, that owing to the former battleship Amagi, winch was being converted into an aircraft carrier under the terms of the Washington Treaty, having been severely damaged in the earthquake, it has been decided to abandon the work on it and to substitute tha former battleship Kaga, whose displacement will be 26,900 tons upon completion.

Under the terms of the Washington Treaty the battleship Amagi, 40,000 tons, under construction, was to have been converted into an aircraft carrier, and the Kaga, 40,600 tons, also under conruction, was not to have been completed.
