(BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COOBESPONCaMT.J aTGABTTAWAHTA, Wednesday. The Borough Council has received from the architects plans of a town hall, estimated to cost about £8000. At a farewell function to Mr. S. R. James, at the Presbyterian Church, no fewer than four old identities who landed at Auckland in 1864, were present, they having come to New Zealand in the ship Columbus. They are Messrs. Thos. and S. R. James, and Mesdames Starr and Nicol, Mr. S. R. James, who was a boy when he landed in New Zealand, came to Ngaruawabia soon After his arrival in the country, and has been intimately associated with the place ever since. Of the European inhabitants he is the one who has lived longest in the district, the P&terson family, who arrived here in 1874, coding next. Last Saturday evening members of the Ngaruawahia Bowling Club presented Mr. James with a bowling bag at a farewell smoker. Owing to the continual winds the grass is not making proper seasonal growth, and the r-uk flow is hardly up to expectations. The last three or four days ha/,** been hot, the thermometer rising above 80 degrees in the shade. A good shower of rain would be of great service. :
