FATAL MOTOR RACE.
COLLISION IN SYDNEY.
ONE COMPETITOR KILLED.
During the running of the second heat of the side-car race ».t Victoria Park in Sydney a few days ago, one of the worst accidents so far experienced in the sport took place, one of the competitors, Sydney Murray, being killed, and two injured. The victims were.: Sydney Murray, electrician, killed; Gordon Neilson, motor mechanic, concussion of the brain, contusion to right thigh; and Claude Male, shock, slight abrasions, and contusion* to ribs. After going about half-way, and when negotiating the turn at the south-eastern corner of the track, Murray's machine was observed -to swerve suddenly as if it had skidded, and a dense cloud of dust was raised.
Almost . immediately another competitor coming behind Murray crashed into him, and one motor-cycle and side-car could -be seen thrown high above' the level of the fence.
The Civil Ambulance motor, which was in attendance at the sports, iiished round to the spot, where a large crowd of spectators had already gathered, and found Murray, shockingly mutilated, just breathing hit* last, although his passenger had received very slight injuries. The other side-car was driven by Gordon Neilson, who had Claude Male as his passenger. Gordon Neilson was suffering from concussion, contusions on one thigh and shock, but Male escaped with contusions to the ribs, and abrasions.
