DARGAVILLE NOTES.

TUX TELEGRAPH.OWN CORBKSPON-DENT.J DARGAVILLE. Wednesday. Mr. A. D. Goodwin, the newly-ap-pointed borough engineer, will take up his duties immediately. It is expected that the appointment will enable the Borough Council to begin the long delayed roading scheme, for which loan money has been in hand for over two years. Various proposals have been put before the council, but no definite action has been taken. The reduction in the price of gas from 15« to 12s 6d per thousand feet, less discount, has been welcomed by consumers. The reduction is long overdue, and as the gas account will still show an ample margin of profit, ratepayers are hoping that it will be still further reduced. The Borough Council is contemplating taking a poll of the ratepayers on the question to carry out improvements at tho gas works, which havo become almost obsolete. The Jersey Club's recent show is expected to show a slight loss, the main factor being tho unfavourable weather. The winners of the points prizes in the industrial sections are as follows :—School competition : Aratapu School, 42 points, 1; Dargavillo and Arapohue schools, each 29 points, 2. Industrial and cooking section : Sections 4, 5, 6, and 7, Miss Kitty Wells. . Cooking and jam section : Mrs. It. A. Lewis. Industrial section: Mrs. J. Dempsey, 1.
